OUTREACH

Two of my greatest passions are to have meaningful community with other artists, and to share my skills with the people around me. To that end, over the years I have developed several different methods of reaching out to fellow artists and of providing a space for non-artist adults to learn new skills and make art. I have curated shows where I determined an overarching message and then invited other artists to contribute. I have also developed an art ministry that included workshop curriculum and invited other artists to teach adult students technical skills through the lens of a focused concept. These physical and cognitive skills help students learn to be better observers and to better process experiences.

THREADS

EASTER EXHIBITION

THREADS • EASTER EXHIBITION •

Artists were invited to consider the concept of the unifying thread in the Christian Bible. Over six months, five different artists worked in mixed media, painting, sculpture, colored pencil, fiber art and fused glass to produce works that expressed Jesus as the key throughout the stories in the Bible. At Easter, the works were displayed in a pop-up gallery alongside a catalogue, for which each artist wrote a statement explaining their work in detail.

WORKSHOP

SELF PORTRAIT

TESTIMONY

SELF PORTRAIT • TESTIMONY •

Students in this workshop learned technical oil painting skills and color mixing by painting still lifes and then their self portrait from a photograph. Throughout the 6-week workshop, each student wrote their life testimony, using an outline, to accompany their portrait, in order to practice seeing themselves through the eyes of the Creator who made us. At the end of the workshop, students displayed their finished portraits and testimonies in a pop-up gallery. All students were adults with various backgrounds, art experiences, and skill levels.

DRAWING

BASICS

DRAWING • BASICS •

This workshop provided students with basic drawing and composition knowledge. We worked with graphite and then dry pastels over the course of six weeks. Each week, students were encouraged to memorize and meditate on a verse from the Christian Bible and the final project required each person to choose one of the verses and design a drawing about that verse. At the end of the workshop, students displayed their finished drawings in a pop-up gallery. All students were adults with various backgrounds, art experiences, and skill levels.
